Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly is a steamy queer romance that follows Dahlia Woodson and Non-binary London Parker who met on the set of a reality cooking show, Chef’s Special where they are both competing to win $100,000.
My favorite aspect of Love and Other Disasters is the non-binary representation. As a Non-binary person myself, I could really relate to London's character especially when it came to their struggles with their father. Not everyone in my family except my identity so seeing London deal with this problem and over come it was really special to me. I appreciate how even when London was being misgendered by one of the transphobic characters, the text itself never did.
Although I felt like the relationship between Dahlia and London didn't have a lot of chemistry and it felt a little insta lovey, I did think they where very cute together.
I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of spice that was in this book. I was expecting it to be one of those book where it isn't fade to black but it's not very descriptive and there to be only one or two scenes. Although this book wasn't the smuttiest I've read, it did have quite a few scenes that where pretty descriptive and decently long.
The premise of this book was interesting, I've never read or even heard of for that matter a book that takes place during a cooking show. I had really enjoyed that aspect of the book. I will say that there didn't seem to be much of a plot to this book because of that I struggled to get into it.
I did however really enjoy the writing style of this book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and it's definitely one that I would read again. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a book with good non-binary rep.

This was a fun and spicy queer read and I loved all the representation in this! This was the first romance novel I read with a non-binary MC! It was challenging to differentiate the voices of the MCs via audiobook.
This was fast paced and entertaining book! I enjoyed the reality tv trope, and found it witty and enjoyable. I like Dahlia and London as characters, and saw their lovable sides early on. The “Uhaul” queer trope definitely fits for Dahlia and London. I appreciated the more passionate spicy scenes, along with the intimate and endearing ones. That was so refreshing.
Be aware that there are multiple instances of transphobia directed at London by another competitor and their dad, who doesn't accept them coming out. While I know this is the reality for many queer and trans folks, I would have enjoyed the novel more without the discrimination plots.

As an ace person, reading romance novels can be weird because it's hard to identify with or understand different experiences and feelings. like when someone turns you on so much you want to lick the scar on their hand or having any desire to have someone's toes in your mouth. So naturally there were some parts of this story that felt so unnatural to me though I imagine others would find them equally natural.
I do like the story though. And I appreciate that both the characters had their own insecurities to work through, goals to discover and work towards, and relationship challenges both inside and outside the romantic relationship to overcome. I did feel like the some aspects were too rushed. But overall it was good

This is such a sweet love story. Finally, a non-binary main character ! Their love story is amazing and you fall in love with them both. I love the cooking perspective and the cooking show. It was such a fun ride. I highly recommend for those who want to read an lgbtqia+ Romance.

Holy crap, did I live this one! It was fun from the moment it started until the very end. Not to mention that it had all the lgbtq+ rep!
I loved Dahlia and London. They were so funny and I liked that they had this grumpy x sunshine vibe going. I also liked that Dahlia wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted. And London was honestly the most relatable person. They were so anxious and easily annoyed and just in their head about everything. I loved the way they got so comfortable with each other in the kitchen and cooking together (and being petty together 😂).
I think the only a couple of things they really lost me in this story. One of them being the food sex scene. That just…😬. The entire time I was reading the scene it just made me think of how much of a mess it would be to clean up. That’s a big ol’ nope from me, thanks. The other thing that lost me was that Dahlia and London went from good(ish) communication to bad really quick. And neither of them were listening to the other. That isn’t my favorite thing in romances, but I liked the way that it worked out in the end.
Love & Other Disasters was a lovely read all around. This book is getting a four and a half stars. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
