"He narrows his eyes, and I immediately stop laughing. In fact, he looks rather forbidding. Oh shit. My subconscious quails in the corner as all the blood drains from my face, and I imagine him putting me across his knee again.
'Gotcha!' he says and smirks."

well, that's just horrifying. on a completely unrelated note, here is an excerpt from Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men:

"Violence is not just punches and slaps; it is anything that puts you in physical fear or that uses your body to control you."

Christian Grey is no leading man. He is selfish, violent, and terrifying at times. E.L. James attempts to ply the reader with each of the "firsts" that Ana and Christian partake in, as if Ana is slowly healing him with her innocent power, but make no mistake: Christian remains the same man, controlling and prone to anger.

This is not a romance. It is a warning.

Such bad grammar that it was distracting. The main character says, “Oh my,” as a response over 200 (!!!) times. I looked it up because it was getting so ridiculous. The character development felt inauthentic. The tragic backstory of the MMC was watered-down and glanced over, leaving him just looking like a kinky asshole who doesn’t want to be close to anyone, except he can’t help it because of some random alluring charm of the FMC. Also was deeply disturbed about the fact that child molestation is painted as okay, just because one of the characters found pleasure in being molested as a child. So gross and disturbing. Sigh. Would not recommend and won’t finish the series.

Was going to give it only two stars but
love that they broke up as the ending😂 even tho I know they get back together🙄 Not cool for the author to not answer all questions or fill-in character/plot holes but to purposely drag it out into another book🙄🙄

I have seen the movies and I was pleasantly surprised that the book was way more intriguing. The characters are more natural and have a better connection in the book. I liked the emails written it gave the book a nice format. The ending was abrupt.

The biggest thing about the book, that I liked, was the characters. They had a better connection in my opinion than the actors in the movie.

Seemed like the right time to finally give this a shot, was not disappointed. I am slightly baffled as to what made this one particular erotic novel become the absolute pop culture phenomenon that it did, but I have no complaints

Please don't hate me but when a book is picked up in the hopes of good smut, I expect good smut. This was not it. Out of all the words for female genitalia this author could have chosen... If I have to read he touched my sex one more time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ana is an indecisive whiny main character. Grey has no character development and I get that mystery is part of his persona but give me something. My favorite characters were side characters Kate and Taylor who had very little to do with the story.

This may be the first time I've ever said this but the movie was better.
