Thing is, I get that a lot of people might not be too wowed by this
But I rate books to how much I enjoyed it and I really liked this book!

Then again, I've been obsessed with Prince Eric since I was a little girl so there's that
And this is basically the Disney movie but from Erics side (throw in some extra curses and stuff)
So if you, like me, love Eric a whole lot: this is the book for you

Sometimes I all of a sudden get a very strong urge. The urge to get a book RIGHT NOW. The urge to read a book as soon as I get my hands on it. For some reason I all of a sudden had this feeling with this book last week. I just finished Bravely and I wanted more Disney books and this was one of the books I had missed. Then the postal services messed up the delivery and the book came a day late, but fine, the urge to read this book RIGHT NOW hadn't passed yet. Luckily.

Especially in the early Disney days the princes don't have much of a personality and backstory. They're handsome and charming and that's about everything they are. I like that in this book Eric gets his own curse, his own adventure and his own chance to be a hero in his own story. And that entirely new curse and mystery doesn't interfere with the original Disney tale at all! On the contrary! Everything makes a lot more sense!

I also really liked the new cast of characters that was introduced in this book. Eric seems less of a loner. He has friends, apart from Max, and he has friends who are willing to die for him. Quite literally. I also quite like that the idea of mermaids existing is introduced way before the reveal that Ariel is one. It makes his reaction that it doesn't matter and that he still loves her even more realistic and believable.

In a way I also love how in this tale the prince isn't just a dumb idiot who believes that Vanessa is the girl saving him from the sea just because of a voice. I don't wanna give too much away of course, but it has always been my least favorite part of the tale and this book had a great way of fixing that issue without changing the whole wedding plot. And that's because Ursula has also become a more interesting character in this novel.

I can't wait to see what they'll do in the next book with Prince Philip!

Have you ever wondered what Eric was going through during the events of The Little Mermaid? That's exactly what this book will unveil for you.

Eric has been cursed and is trying to find the right girl to break that curse while also trying to protect his kingdom. This story does such a good job of filling in gaps from the movie that you never even knew you were missing. It perfectly fits within the events we already know and love but adds so much more to the story. I love that there were added supernatural elements as well that further pushes the fantasy elements. I think my favorite part of seeing through Eric's perspective is getting to really understand why he won't just kiss the girl!!

I gave this book 5 stars because I was pulled in early and it never let go. It also really spoke to my Disney loving self as well as my affinity for "retellings." Though technically it's an expansion not a retelling. I am looking forward to more books in this series!

It was just ok so far. Very similar to the movie but with some extra elements. Nothing was “wrong” with it. I just didn’t want to pick it up for days.
