Louise Gluck was awarded the Nobel prize in 2020 for “her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal”. The Wild Iris, a Pulitzer winning collection explores life, death, immortality, the human soul and related themes through the lens of the author’s garden. There is a heavy Biblical element to the collection meaning it probably wasn’t the smartest selection on my part. I did enjoy many of the poems and could see her poetic talents on full display. The overall conversation between three points of view - one human, one natural and one god-like - gave the collection a distinct cohesiveness.

This was fine. Generally, I love nature-focused poetry. But this was not moving nor memorable. I can't recall a single word of it.
