This is Just to Say was a fun collection - written as though they were class compositions - and I particularly liked the way the response poems related to the original apology poems. My only quibble might be that you could pick it up and be confused about whether they were actually written by kids or by one author...otherwise, a nice idea. One poem actually made me tear up, which might say more about me than the poems!

I loved this book. Great book to help middle school kids love poetry.

A thought-provoking collection of paired poems where one poet apologizes and is then responded to with another poem. A lot is learned about each poet in very few words.

Words cannot convey how much I love this book. It is, without a doubt, the book I wish I had written. Thank you, JS.

While I am a fan of poetry, I picked up this one because it is illustrated by [a:Pamela Zagarenski|151356|Pamela Zagarenski|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66-251a730d696018971ef4a443cdeaae05.jpg]. I was surprised by how much I did end up enjoying the writing. The idea (to write apology letters and have responses written to them) is a unique one, and one that speaks to all of us. The premise is that it is an anthology of poetry written by a sixth grade class inspired by William Carlos William's poetry. While it is inspired by the author's work as a poet teacher, it is actually mainly her work. What a wonderful springboard for a genre study in writing workshop. She plays with different forms of poetry around a theme.

It also goes beyond clever and some of the poems made me tear up. Done with a lot of heart and wit.

At first, I was shocked to see the Bluebonnet committee had nominated two books of poetry this year. Two books of poetry! Then I reconsidered this idea…Why not? If you can have almost half your choices be realistic fiction, why not have two books of poetry? I was moderately interested in the idea behind this book, stories told using a poem of apology and a response poem.
