It was OK, I wish it was more about the earlier stories and less about the gaslight-y current ones.

Hex Wives is a brand new series in the DC universe. It’s interesting in that it doesn’t really fit in with any of the other series – yet. It has a darker tone to it, which is understandable. The series focuses on three women, three witches, if you want to get technical. They keep reincarnating, and thus are pretty impossible to stop in the long term.
The three women remind me a lot of Hocus Pocus and the Sanderson Sisters, and that may or may not have been intentional (it’s possible that both are based on something else that I’m not aware of). Though of course this interpretation here is a lot darker and bloodier. No real surprise there.
The series did a great job at getting me emotionally invested – I couldn’t help but notice that the women, while being fully capable of horrible violence, kept getting tracked down by the same family, again and again. It looks like a typical blood feud, which always raises the question of who actually started it, and why do they bother to continue it? In this case though, there’s an unhealthy dose of religious fanaticism on one side of the fight, and I think we’re meant to be painfully aware of that fact (that or it’s my proximity to Salem that has made me overly sensitive to it).
I’m looking forward to seeing where the series will go, and how long it’ll run for. As it stands it could easily be an interesting short series, but I think they’ll need to expand on a few points if they want it to be longer running (which I actually hope will happen here).

I read this issue and was initially intrigued by the setup in this particular installment, but after watching Ashley at Bookish Realm's review on the volume and how the writer tokenized the only black woman/character in the series, I think I'm gonna have to pass. I was worried that would be the case and it seems like my suspicions were confirmed. I'm gonna search for more witchy themes written by women of color because I'd like to see a similar concept written by someone who knows what they're talking about.

Interesting enough to tri the second issue. I mean, murderous lesbian witches who live through the centuries isn't too bad a concept.

Thanks, I hate it.

Sounded like a cool premise but I despise the way witches are portrayed. I'm a witch, witches exist, and we don't commune with Satan and cause chaos. (Ok... not all of us)
There's also some wlw content, but I just.... this all felt so ham-fisted. Ra ra feminism, 50s aesthetic... it's not vibing with me.(Maybe because Joëlle Jones did it so much better?)

This is one of those "I really wanted to like it" sort of comics – but there's just something about the pacing of the narrative that threw me for a loop! I didn't enjoy myself reading this, and maybe it gets better in later issues but it just doesn't seem worth it to give this comic more of my attention than it already received.
