Is this a perfect story with impeccable worldbuilding? No. But I enjoyed reading it so much that the flaws didn't even register all that much. Except the sharp turning point
when Tom was killed. That was a bit sharp for such a book, both in tone and story. It felt jarring and put heaviness that was not reflected in the characters behaviour. Oh yes let's banter with the murderer few hours after we discovered it happened.

But, despite that point, this is a fun story with great character and hazy but curious worldbuilding. I was unable to put it down and kept me entertained.

3.5 stars (I usually round up but I'm cranky with authors who never describe their characters, so rounding down). I find it distracting, since I visualize scenes, if there are no character descriptions. I don't need anything detailed, just some basics. Yes, yes, some readers like to make up their own descriptions, I am not one of them. That's the author's job, not mine.

Anyway, crankiness aside...This is a fun, short, sci-fi novel with lots of world building. The plot doesn't kick in until about 65% in. I'd read more books in this world if the author makes it a series.

Jurassic Park + Godzilla, this light, funny, nerdy book is exactly what I needed right now. And the narration by Wil Wheaton is... :chef's kiss:... perfection.

Very cool premise, bad execution, worse dialogue.
