Anyone else a little sad we didn’t get Saga in this one as much? 😭 Still, I love Margot and her fierce attitude and I can say the same for Joona. He definitely has a no fucks given attitude and chases justice no matter the cost! Written exceptionally well and immerses you into every scene with attention to detail. It grips you from page one. One of the only authors where I have the whole series because I know each book will be good 🤭 10/10 recommend for my fellow thriller seekers.

Truly cannot believe it took me till "stolen acrylic fingernails" to realize the killer was female and yet HERE WE ARE. Feel almost like I should reread the earlier sections of this book to pick up on the murderer's early behavior.(Also, from a psych standpoint, I don't think narcissistic PD is the full picture here but that's neither here nor there. Mischaracterization of personality disorders is a common problem in crime fiction and I've resigned myself to it.)
As always, Kepler's writing is thrilling and cinematic. I'll forever be bitter that the film adaptation of The Hypnotist wasn't good and thus future film adaptations are unlikely (holding out for Miss Marple-style TV adaptations, though. Do me a solid, PBS).
It's a real page-turner - finished it in two days when I absolutely should have been doing other things with my time. The shining stars of this book are the characters, particularly the rotating cast of side characters. I personally was quite happy to see Erik again, as The Hypnotist is on my short list of "thrillers to force on your friends the second they indicate any interest in murder or crime." And can I politely request More Margot? Hardass lesbian detective? Yes please and thank you.
