Who on earth could review this above a 2? What a mental story with an incredibly disappointing ending. Not even an attempt at a twist. This was NOT good.

Incredibly dark, but beautifully written. The cover and title made me sort of expect a regular thriller but this was different in that it lacked the element of "fun" that most thrillers have despite their dark subject matter etc. I enjoyed how complex the characters were and the prose was brutal at times. I'm not sure how I felt about the ending. I read this at around the same time as [b:Bringing Up Bébé: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting|13152287|Bringing Up Bébé One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting|Pamela Druckerman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327009243l/13152287._SY75_.jpg|17885255], which made for an ...interesting contrast. Solid four stars. The book just throws you in at the deep end, doesn't keep you guessing as to what's going to happen, and then you spend th erest of the book inside this family, and sometimes inside the head of the protagonist, watching as the situation gets worse. It manages to avoid any easy options like her being driven to do it by some external force - we just get the sense of a rootless person who doesn't really know how to be in the world. It's uncomfortable reading. If my daughter was younger and if we had a nanny I think I'd be giving her side-eye after reading this.

Il manque de la suspense. On sait au début que la nounou l'avait fait. Toutefois, c'est une bonne étudie psychologique et de la distinction entre les classes sociales.

Overhyped. Disjointed with a murder motive left unclear but not enigmatically so.
