The book starts with the murder, then there are some chapters, then it ends with the murder. Non Spoiler : the nanny did it.
It’s definitely creepy. The things that make the nanny most disturbing are written sparsely, not hitting the reader over the head with the obviousness.

Not what I was expecting, but it was an interesting short read. Wish we got more of the reason and more on the story of why she did it. I don’t know what the writer was going for with the story line about the Nannies daughter but oh well that’s left unsaid. Also would have liked a little more background on the other kids the nanny watched so I could get some understanding for the abuse.

Start out strong but somehow I lost my intrest somewhat half way trough the novel. Not bad though, an alright read.

I recently picked up this international bestseller from my local library, drawn in by its reputation and my liking for mystery/crime stories involving a "killer" nanny. At first glance, the book seemed promising, and its relatively short length added to its appeal. However, my initial excitement quickly turned into a huge disappointment.
The story kicks off with a chilling scene: forensic teams and police officers documenting the tragic demise of a baby. This gruesome opening sets the stage for what should have been a compelling exploration into the motives behind such heinous act. Indeed, it immediately grabbed my attention, leaving me eager to uncover the reason behind the nanny's actions.
Unfortunately, what followed was a descent into confusion and boredom. The story unfolded in a convoluted manner, leaving me struggling to make sense of it all. Despite my persistent efforts to grasp the plot, I found myself increasingly disengaged as the pages turned. I held onto the hope that a groundbreaking revelation would eventually provide clarity and redeem the story, but alas, no such moment arrived. Instead, the omniscient narration only served further confuse, and I totally gave up.
To make matters worse, none of the characters proved to be remotely likable. Their interactions felt superficial and detached. Even as the story reached its conclusion, the questions that had initially compelled me to delve into the book remained unanswered.
I feel unsatisfied and ultimately regretful of the time invested in this book. Overall, it was a letdown.
