A pretty quick listen, well developed characters and relationships, with a meandering plot. I wasn’t convinced by the love story side-plot, but it wasn’t annoying. Overall an enjoyable read.

As someone already obsessed with tyrannical pirate stories, and who devours any pirate media possible, this was a perfect story about a girl running away to become a pirate.
I have had this book on my shelf for years and only just picked it up, thinking it was for much younger children. I was wrong, this book is certainly only for high schoolers mature enough to handle the topics of slavery, SA, Gore and general human cruelty.

I enjoyed the story of the two girls, and SPOILER-
the only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing is how they split apart from each other at the end. I've decided to ignore that part and let Nancy live happily ever after on the Island with her sister and found family. She was basically over William at this point anyway, with a little more growth she could certainly take a partner from the island, if she thinks it necessary.

Despite that I loved the adventures this book led me on.
