Pretty good, but the pacing was pretty off having them rush into a relationship have all the problems be resolved fairly quickly but dragging out the lying part. Good ideas tho.
This book was boring as shit. The characters were underdeveloped and mostly came off as wildly immature, regardless of being in their 30's.... The story itself was cute and made for a very light read I guess.

this book very quickly went into so bad it’s good territory for me, and i very quickly had to finish it. was it good? no not really. but i loved reading it. it’s essentially a hallmark movie level book, so cheesy ridiculous and poorly planned that you have to love it, and i did. still thinking about the pony plot line and the huge quantities of cheese eaten,,, all i can say. anyway im a massive lesbo so none of this comes from a place of hatred and i genuinely hope the writer continues to make more books. whether they’re improvements on this book or not, both are fine. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
First lesbian read and it was CHEESY. A light Christmas romance nothing more nothing less :)

this book was not my favorite. i felt like the romance was very underdeveloped even though there were some cute moments. i did appreciate the book being dual pov, but i did not feel a very strong connection to either of the main characters. the ending also seemed a little rushed, and i felt like the conflicts weren’t really resolved.
2.5 - wasn’t horrible, but i also shouldn’t be feeling bad for a man when i signed up for lesbians
I stayed up late finishing this book so I could post my review in good conscience. Long story short, I had a bad time. I signed up for a fun Christmas romp, and what I got was an Absolute Mess ™️. Now I love a trope; this book is billed as fake dating after all. However, around the 50-70% mark, I went from being just underwhelmed to grinding my teeth in frustration.
First, there are too many side plots that aren't even executed well. The levels of contrived drama and miscommunication are egregious.
Second, the main characters aren't even likable. Ellie straight up just sucks and Margot is like...just...there. What I'm saying is, the only loveable characters in this sapphic alleged rom-com are the straight brother, Ben, and the pregnant dog. I know it's only May, but I feel like this book is the Grinch, and it just stole Christmas. My heart has shrunk three sizes.

This was fine. Very predictable, but not objectionable. Happy endings abound, in extremely unbelievable but not off-putting ways.
If you're looking for a fake-relationship trope where the fake lovers *don't* fall in love, this is fine. That was my favorite thing about it. Not that it was a twist...the cover, the blurb on the back, the fact the two people in the fake relationship are a straight man and a lesbian...I'm not spoiling anything. But I still like the up-ending of a trope, so that earned a bonus star from me.

This turned out to be a lovely read to finish 2023 on. The Christmas Swap by Talia Samuels had a charming romance storyline that could easily be adapted into the next British Christmas rom-com movie - I could definitely see Rose Leslie and Lilly James starring as Margot and Ellie in a film version of The Christmas Swap. This is perfect for fans of Hallmark movies to read over the end of winter.
