The illustrations of the tree house are gaze worthy. We spent some time trying to find the marshmallow machine. Fun read as the book store itself.

I can see why kids like this- lots of funny pictures to go with the absurd text. Will be adding this series to my school library. This will be especially appealing to my older elementary students who want to read chapter books but haven’t built up a lot of stamina yet; they’ll feel satisfaction completing this.

Ridiculously fun in a disjointed post-modern-art sort of way. Outlandish short stories that are joined together on one afternoon during which Andy and Terry, the occupants of said amazing treehouse are working like crazy to get their book ready for publication tomorrow. Had AJ in giggles throughout.

I'm totally not the target audience for this, and that's okay. Kids will find out hilarious. it tries for a similar tone to Captain Underpants--two mischief-making boys writing their adventures into a book--but doesn't quite hit the mark. But the 2nd grader will love it, and I'll have to get him the rest of the serious, I'm sure.

The 13-Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths, illustrated by Terry Denton, is definitely a book aimed at the elementary aged child. The illustrations are amusing and seem to fit well with a lot of similar titles available today. The stories are just the right mix of silliness and story-telling that a younger kid will appreciate. Sometimes the illustrations tell most of the story and other times they just complement it.

Andy and Terry live in a 13-story treehouse that has just about anything you could possibly want – a lemonade fountain, a marshmallow shooter, and all sorts of other outrageous things. Andy and Terry are tasked to write a book, of which they only have 2 pages completed. The finished product is due at the end of the day and they keep getting distracted. Several of the stories involved growing sea monkeys and the exploits that came about as a result of their mishaps.

My Take: All of the stories fit well with a child’s sense of humor, though I’d advise parents to give the stories a once-over first. Andy and Terry aren’t the best role models, even if their antics are amusing. I’d give it a cautious recommendation with that in mind. If your kids like books along the lines of the Dork Diaries and other books that are partly illustrated and partly telling a story, they’ll probably enjoy this as well.

Disclaimer: I was provided with a preview copy of this book with no expectations on anyone’s part. The opinions expressed are my own and were not influenced by anyone else.

I know I'm not the target demographic, but I had tickets to go to the launch of the 78-Storey Treehouse with my niece and nephew and occurred to me I should probably read at least one book from the series. It was great, and I wish I lived in a treehouse like Andy and Terry and had a pet catanary or two. I suspect if I'd read this when I was much younger I would have spent many hours drawing my own several-storey treehouse. In fact I might spend a bit of time on that even now I am 42. Though as an oldie I'm worried my version will end up much more like some bloated Grand Designs mansion than Andy and Terry's delight.

My book: borrowed from niece and nephew, fortunately without them noticing.

My 5 year old really loved it. Some of the humour went over his head, but I laughed :)
