"delicate" Southern wisdom must be sly sarcasm. She used profane language in her first article on Disneyworld and lost me. I decided that life is too short to spend anymore time with her idea of Southern wisdom. I prefer more class than she was willing to display, and I think the South is capable of delivering it.

[guessing at the star rating / mining my old FB notes now that they are almost impossible to find]

allelulia! this woman is preaching to the choir - so much of what she has to say has been said by me before. the difference? she's actually FUNNY while doing it. on top of child rearing issues, she takes aim at celebrity baby bumps, reality tv, celebrities writing children's books (arggh! another pet peeve of mine) and 'huzzzbands'. the essays are a bit dated - talking about the simple life with paris hilton, queer eye for the straight guy, ebay, and hillary duff - but work for me in that it's about the same time frame that i, too, had to walk across the aisle from the sweet 4-6X clothes to the g-r-o-s-s and taudry styles of the 7 & ups. i ended up buying most of my daughter's clothes from value village - where you could find practically new handmade clothes (probably lovingly sewed by grandma, and quickly ditched by fashion savy 7 and 8 year olds)

Overall, this was a funny book. It's not ground-breaking, it's not inspirational or enlightening, but it's good for a chuckle or two.

I found a copy of this in the Little Free Lending Library by my house, was intrigued by the cover (and of course the in-your-face title), and figured it would be a nice, easy read. I assumed it was a parenting book, but it covers many topics including kids, celebrities, husbands, and physical appearances.

While I don't agree with everything Rivenbark writes, her work is humorous. She has an interesting variety of humor, up-front as well as more subtle jokes. There are quite a few jokes that are made in poor taste though. Lots of fat-shaming (and diet-bashing so there is no winner here), slut-shaming and woman bashing (calling female Olympians Hoochie Mamas), and stereotyping gay people. She even goes as far to make a joke about how gay men should take the stereotypes of flamboyancy and good fashion as a compliment and move on. There are definitely some eye-rolling statements made in the book. I realize most of it is "all in good fun" for her, but the put downs and stereotypes are still harmful and unnecessary.

So funny book with some bad jokes and views. Sometimes it's hard to judge what is a joke and what is serious in the book, which is especially a fault when she is talking about overgeneralizing certain groups of people. It's an entertaining read, nothing to take seriously, and some of her jokes are harmful so I wouldn't recommend this book to everybody.

For the most part, it's a quick, entertaining read.

I really wanted to like this book. I wanted something similar to Laurie Notaro, because her books are fabulously hilarious, but this one just didn't measure up. I just found myself rolling my eyes instead of laughing. Not good.

It kind of was a disappointment. A some of it is somewhat outdated, though still, I guess, relevant. But the best part of it is the title, and you can read that part in the bookstore.

This was ok. Not as funny as I thought it would be. It was mostly just rambling thought of the author.

Humorous essay collection.  Great to pick up after a stressful day. Always good for a chuckle.
