More like 2.5 stars.

This is a 5-issue miniseries detailing one of Lando and L3's missions as Captain and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, leading up to the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In the first 1-2 issues I enjoyed the abundance of signature Calrissian one-liners, but by issue 3 I began to cotton on to the disappointing fact that that's all there is here. It was a jarring realisation after spending the last four years being conditioned to look for overarching themes and grey characters in the new canon materials. Lando just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the Star Wars universe at this point. He's a smooth-talking, pistol-toting smuggler, and... that's all. Granted, not every character has to be full of conflict and ~emotions~, but compare the development that Lando (a beloved veteran character) receives in the Solo tie-ins - practically none - to the attention that is given to Qi'ra (a brand-new character) and her backstory.

I feel a bit silly typing this out because part of me is wondering what exactly I expected from a 5-issue miniseries. But whatever I was expecting, this fell short of it.

This story might fare better in TPB form, but following it over five long months left it feeling lacklustre and underwhelming.

An okay read...it felt a lot like the Solo movie though, so I can see not everyone liking this.

A mediocre entry into the Star Wars canon. Lando is a freedom fighter. L3 is grating. Meh!

don't you love it when supposedly pansexual male characters talk about loving women but don't mention loving any other gender even when they easily could ("women, credits and games of chance are the pillars of life" - could have easily been "pretty people" or anything similar but ok)

anyway, the art style was great and I actually love Lando and L3 but I'm salty about this
