This was a particularly strong entry in the series.
Less time spent with Holden's POV, no egregiously, hilariously bad writing of female characters, and they brought back Bobbie and Clarissa to shake up the established group of main characters.
There was a point where this book became very hard to put down. Yes, there are still issues with the writing, but this isn't a book to read when you are looking for great literature. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.

This is the no-stopping-till-we're-done space opera adventure I expect from this series! The authors had a couple of odd character moments, but I forgive them those for all the character moments they did well. We get to know the crew of the Rocinante a little better this time around as they are all viewpoint characters. We get to know a lot more about Naomi and her life, which I really enjoyed. Amos is someone I never hope to meet in real life, but he is a fun character go read about. I think I enjoyed his chapters the most, even though I consider them less important than the others in terms of the plot. I don't want to get into the plot since it builds on the first 4 books.

You have to start from the beginning with The Expanse, but I highly recommend the series to anyone who enjoys harder science fiction, political intrigue, and television shows like Firefly and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica.

I like that the two authors known as [author:James S.A. Corey|4192148] spent 4 books building up the crew/family of the Rocinante and then, in book 5, scatters them in all directions, spending the story to bring them back together.

The novel fills in some of the back story of Naomi, Alex, and Amos; we meet Naomi's husband and son, Alex's ex-wife, and some of Amos' companions growing up in Baltimore. We don't learn much about James Holden's past. "There was a button," Holden said. "I pushed it." "Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn't it?" (Fred Johnson)

We see a new professional crew flying the Rocinante (for a short period of time). Bobbie Draper is back aboard the Roci.

The three "big" tribes are Earther, Martian, or Belter, yet on the Rocinante, all 3 live and work together as family. If only this model could be extended to the rest of the solar system (and out through the Rings).

A new political force has awakened (or at least become visible) and it has attacked Earth; Mars didn't need to be attacked since people are leaving it to go through the Rings. The OPA, like the Tea Party, has no solid identity; parts are civilized and parts are unrestrained (they would claim from a life of deprivation in the Belt). As Cyn said, "There's OPA, and there's OPA".

"Doors and corners."

This was the first book (Kindle edition) in the Expanse series that I found a typo in. I reported it to Amazon.
