Military sci-fi. Excellent. Heart-stoppingly full of action. You'll especially like it if you're into time-travel, naval warfare from any time period, WWII, and are of a mechanical mindset.
Well-drawn characters, great varieties of action on land and sea, and Anderson ends it with that tantalizing bit of come-on...I've already ordered up #4!

Excellent next entry of a great adventure told with mastery. It was obvious in the last book that Anderson was taking his time getting to the climax of the Amagi story arc. I did not expect to get an end to that story until at least the end of this volume. What surprised me was how fun he filled the build up to that point. Equal if not superior to first book in my opinion. If I were forced to find any critique at all, it would be one meaningless continuity issue for an introduced vessel and one conversation that was a bit odd to happen while under enemy fire that just felt weird. All the GREAT things however would spoil the fun if mentioned. I will note that it seems by this entry, Anderson is getting better at writing tense scenes and the emotions that come with it, not that it was horrible before.

This series keeps getting better. Someone needs to turn this into a movie.
The one thing that bugged me a little bit is how much action took place “off screen”. I need to remember that a 400 page book has a different flow than a 1,100 page book and that that’s ok. I’ve been reading a little bit too much epic fantasy recently and it’s skewing my perspective when it comes to these shorter books.

A nice conclusion to the initial trilogy, though there were plenty of threads that weren't wrapped up. Good for all of your base-building, battle-against-desperate-odds cravings.
