My first journal entry, written about a quarter into the book, sums up my feelings pretty well "Lindsay is not a lovable character at the moment. Refuses to even consider that she might be in the wrong about Brad and what happened 5 years ago. Could not maintain professionalism during either of the two interviews. Brad is coming across as a much more believable and lovable person."

This novel couldn't quite decide what it wanted to be, as the sections with Brad and Lindsay could have been in different novels, and they weren't all that well meshed. Brad's sections showed someone who was comfortable with who he was and where he was, even if that person is making cat treats at a cat café. He's enjoying the challenge of the cat treats, and figuring out what breakfast sweets and what lunch sandwiches do well. He's discovering that he loves cats and that maybe he could adopt one.

Lindsay, on the other hand, never grew up. Sure, what she saw looked really bad. It did. But she refused to accept Brad for who he is - a natural flirt - and assumed the worst, without even once listening to him about what happened. She has no idea why she no longer wants to be a chef, or why she hasn't been able to settle down in a relationship.

When we meet them, Brad comes across as professional. He answers all the puff-piece questions about himself and his dating life, and he talks at length about why he's enjoying the challenge of working at a cat café. And Lindsay. Lindsay can't believe that her best friend would side against her by ....daring to hire the best person for her cafe. Lauren has to defend Brad's hiring to Lindsay, instead of insisting that her friend finally grow up.
