The way it's written is quite heavy going. Lots of statistics and quotes, long sentences. It's also pretty outdated now but it really does make you think. And it makes you angry. That's a good thing, we should be angry.

I had to stop this book a lot because I was frustrated that things hadn't really changed since the book was authored but I'm glad I read and it certainly gave me a new perspective on how I view beauty

While her stats are bad and she should feel bad (not to mention her ongoing descent into anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorist), Wolf’s first book is still a great introductory read for a new feminist. It’s a good stepping point for reflecting on and reframing one’s own relationship to performing gender and engaging with a capitalist, patriarchal society that treats bodies as a commodity.
