The Spirit In The Crypt - Alexander Lound
4⭐
This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
In this book we follow Jonathon Roberts, a fifteen year old boy that is forced into a crypt where he not only finds the decayed remains of people but he also begins to hear a voice in his head. As he tries to unravel the mystery of the voice he heard in the crypt and the persisitant nightmares, people from his school mysteriously become ill and he suspects that it’s all connected.
I really enjoyed this book, it was very refreshing as it's been a long time since I have found a good YA ghost story/ mystery that has held my interest throughout. The pace was a little slow at time’s however it never felt like it got too slow and overall it delivered the story really well. I really connected with the main character and the mystery kept me up late into the night excited to learn more.
This is the first book in a series following Jonathon, a teen medium and I'm excited to read more about his journey.

The author asked me if I was interested in an honest review in exchange for this book, and I said yes.
I’m so happy for saying to him. I really enjoyed it.
This book is about a 15 years old boy who is discovered that he can speak with the dead aka spirits. My favorite part was the séance. It was so interesting to read about it because I’m really curious about these things.
I was so happy for that in this book we can truly get to know the villain and we can arrive to that point where is our villain isn’t the real one. It was so enjoyable to read.
If you are looking for a book which is spooky, has an anti-villain and a sweet romance thread in it I highly recommend to choose this book.
This book is Alexander Lound debut novel. I always enjoys reading the writers first books.
With one word: enjoyable

I was sent The Spirit in the Crupt for free to review by the author. It was an interesting ghost story, short and to the point that I think younger readers would really enjoy. However I found the writing style not to my liking, a bit too straight forward. Similarly I would call the characters rather one dimentional with no real development. The story was well paced and set a clear path to the conclusion, but I would personally have preferred more depth to the motives of the characters and their struggles.

I was sent a copy of this book to read for an honest review. ☺️

I really enjoyed reading this! It was an easy read that quickly grabbed my attention and held my interest. I love books I can get into quickly and don’t feel like it’s a chore to finish! I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and will be looking into other books from this author! The only thing I really lacked was some suspense, or mystery, as the book got closer to the end. It was a very cut and dry ending, but one I would still rate 3.5 stars!

*I received a free ARC of this book with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

The Spirit in the Crypt is a chilling ghost story aimed at older teens and young adults.

The main character, Jonny, is very relatable – hanging around with his friends, eating pizza and playing computer games – but unfortunately the other kids at his school just don’t agree.

Thrown into an ominous crypt one night and held there against his will, Jonny discovers he can see and hear the dead, and sets into motion a supernatural mystery that needs to be solved if there are going to be any other children left at his school.

The tone is satisfactorily chilling without containing anything too gory or terrifying for the intended audience, and Jonny makes a fascinating main character as he sets about defying the supernatural with a carrier bag of groceries and some research from the internet.

This is the first book in a planned Jonny Roberts series and I will be following with interest to see where his newfound gifts take him next.

“Let me out!” I shouted at them. I ran at the door and banged on it with both hands. “Let me out now! All of you!”
More laughter. I rested my head on the door. I knew that I had no choice. They wouldn’t let me out until I’d been deep into this crypt. Until I’d reported every nook and cranny back to them. And, as I turned from the door, I had a feeling, a terrible feeling, that there was something lurking in that darkness.
And whatever it was, it didn’t want me there.

A huge thank you to the author Alexander Lound for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review! I really enjoyed this book!

This is a YA horror novel about a boy named Jonny who through some unfortunate events, discovers an angry spirit in a crypt. This book is somewhat creepy and has some mystery too it, but it is definitely not super horrifying or too much for people who don't normally read horror & dislike scary movies like myself.

I thought this was a really fun read! The characters were interesting and I found this to be a very quick read. I also liked that the characters in here are British. My favorite part of this was all the back story on the spirit and its life prior to being in the crypt. I thought that the spirit was very well developed & the discovery of the spirits past was an interesting and dark trail to follow.

Overall, I thought this was a fun dark/ spooky read. Definitely recommend!
Can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!

Johnny Roberts is a typical teen, trying to make it in school without attracting too much attention from bullies and the like. One summer, while trying to fit in with said bullies, he is thrown into a crypt and locked inside for a bit.

So it begins, his terrying experience brings in changes...voices only he can hear, feelings of icicles pricking his neck, and souls being snatched from kids at his school.

This is the first in a new series by a debut author which reminds me of the Goosebumps series. I instantly loved Johnny and the world he is thrust into. He handles it like any young teen his age would. Mystery solving, dangerous spirits of the dead, and chilling scenes make this a fun and entertaining read.

I was contacted by the author and provided this book in exchange for an honest review. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity as I really enjoyed this one and excited to see where the next one goes.

I really liked the concept in this book. It was my first time reading something like this and it had its creepy vibes on more than one occasion. I really love Aaron and Johnnys friendship, and their detective skills are great. I looked forward to the next book in the series.

The author reached out to me and offered me a free copy in exchange for a review. I ended up purchasing a copy, because I think its important to support self-published and indie authors.

This book was like an updated version of a John Bellairs novel for a slightly older audience. If has a young man who encounters the paranormal, makes friends with a quarky older person and then tries to help those around him.

The pacing was good and I liked the setting overall. The main characters was compelling and fleshed out, but I felt like the side characters could have been better developed overall. There were a few tropes I did not love, but overall the story was entertaining and fun and a worthy debut. For fans of the paranormal looking for a quick fun read, check it.
