This was the November Read for the PBH bookclub and is not something I would have usually picked up, mainly because I don’t like this cover. I’m not a big fan of this style of cartoon cover. I didn’t really like this, I just felt embarrassed most of the time that Maybell was speaking.
Spoilers Ahead
I usually love grumpy x sunshine, but only when it’s done well. Why does sunshine have to mean that she’s super ‘quirky’ and has no filter. My second hand embarrassment can’t handle when a character acts like they have no idea what is considered acceptable to say to another person. For the most part I didn’t love her coffee shop au, but when he set up the real version it was very sweet.
The whole catfishing thing felt like it didn’t need to be mentioned, it kind of just gave a reason for Maybell to not have any friends. Her having his picture didn’t do much for their relationship, because once it was revealed they
I liked the representation in Wesley’s anxiety and how that manifested in him being unapproachable, as I also have anxiety that can make it hard to talk to people and get my thoughts across. I think the ending was sweet with their trip to Scotland and him facing his anxiety and finding a way of coping. I also really liked how from the beginning he sacrificed his comfort to make her happy, leaving his bedroom for her!!
I probably won’t be rereading this, as it just didn’t do what I wanted it to, I would love to read a book just about Wesley though!

my reading list is filled with difficult books that i will have to be reading for class. my brain literally cannot comprehend nabokov at the moment so i went with a classic rom com as a palette cleanser. I started it at 11 and ended at 3 am. This was the sweetest funniest book with the most wholesome and endearing message. I loved it!!
