Overall enjoyed it, especially the last few chapters. I definitely think it's a little slow to start, and having the two books leads to some repetitiveness. However my main gripe with the book is that I truly don't think that it should be a fantasy, and I don't think the "echoes" really add anything at all to the story. The same exact story could have been told without the main character having this "power".

On the other hand, I love the hopeful tone at the end.

Beautiful and heartbreaking and so wonderfully told.
I loved that it was two books inside another - what a clever way to bring the background out while also bringing the plot forward.

This story is part mystery, part tragedy, part romance.
It is set in the 1980s, although the books within the books are from just before World War II (pearl harbor happens near the end of one of those stories)
There are some heavy topics touched on, since the characters were living during them.

I highlighted so many snippets of this book and definitely will be seeking out more from this author.

It was hard to get into. Really liked the idea of three books in one. A cute, unexpected romance story.

The depictions of terminal diseases and suicide left a sour taste in my mouth. As someone who has familial experiences with both the comparing of different people's situations just felt wrong and I really couldn't continue with the book. <specifically when the main character thinks about how the possible love interests? mother fought to stay alive for her family while her mother just decided laid down and died>
