Lady Oracle

Overall Lady Oracle was an ok read, I especially liked the flashbacks to Joan's childhood and the way this novel had elements of the Costume Gothics sprinkled in.
I personally didn't really like the ending, mostly because the way the last few pages were written felt very unpolished/first draft to me. (And this is a recurring theme, I feel this could have used another pass of editing in some places.)
Initially I was excited to read this as the first parts were enjoyable and engaging but by the time part four rolled in the whole pace of this book simultaneously slowed down and got too fast, with too many unrealistic plotlines coming together too quickly and some of them feeling like they're never resolved; open endings can be great if intentionally done so, but in this case it feels like Atwood forgot to tie in all the loose ends (the dead animals and the man at the end?).
Overall Lady Oracle seems like it was fun to write, at least that's how I experienced it while reading. Not Atwood's best work but worth reading if you are a fan of hers.

This took longer than I expected to get into, but about halfway through it became intriguing and I couldn't put it down.

Some pet incidents are repeated across her books, but her beautiful style of writing brings me back to her books. Cat's eye was a favourite and I feel echoes of it in this book. Enjoyed the book within the book better though. More intriguing.
