Lady Oracle felt like multiple ideas for a novel, all rolled into one and all unfinished in their own way. There was too much going on in this novel for any of the plots to make sense or feel complete.
I think (and some reviewers admit) that people are only scoring this so highly because it’s a Margaret Atwood novel.
Wouldn’t read again.

it started off very interesting, but the ending was sudden and rushed to me.

Super fun read and I loved the main character and reading about her past

Not my favorite book but interesting enough to suck me in. A young woman who having grown up overweight and constantly reminded of the problem by her mother, receives an inheritance from her favorite aunt which comes with strings attached- lose the weight. To escape he rather dysfunctional home life she does lose the weight and moves away from home. Ends up writing gothic romances to support herself and along the way meets and becomes involved with a few strange male characters. In order to get out of one of her relationships she ends of faking her death with some help of some friends. This in itself backfires in the end. An ok story.

This book started off so strong for me. Joan’s relationship with her mother was heartbreaking, it was tough to get through but really well done. Once we catch up with how Joan arrives to her current situation, though, the plot falls apart for me. The ending felt like the end to any other chapter, not the end of the story. Definitely lost the point of the plot at the end.

While not my favorite Atwood book I found this to be an enjoyable and cleaver read.
Witty and fast moving this is the kind of book you can get through in one or two sittings.

Following Joan a Naïve writer and her relationships from mother to husband.
