4.5 stars; another banger in this series!
This one was so so so sweet. I love a good childhood friends to lovers. SO much mutual pining and sexual tension and sweet bff moments. I just loved them and I loved how quickly Carter came to terms with himself and what he wanted. This whole series has just been so solid.

I really enjoyed this book, I love how they were able to figure out their situation in a timely manner lol. If you know you know why I said lol. I thought they were perfect for each other and I can see how much they care for each other.

Trade Deadline : Chicago Thunder #3 : 5+⭐️

This has been my favorite of the series so far! But that shouldn’t be too shocking because childhood best friends to lovers is my favorite troupe! Honestly I am not sure how Jodi does it because I thought that Carter and Zach were in a relationship in Trade Deadline and obviously at the end of Off Season we find out Zach was distraught pining over his best friend. But like the way she laid their story out it perfection, and getting more of each established couple in each book! It’s amazing!

🏒Childhood Bestfriends to Lovers

🏒Pining/Angst

Zach has been in love with his best friend Carter for as long as he can remember. With them both being professional athletes they have a pact that every off season is spent together! Only this year Carter starts a relationship with a woman. Zach can’t be around it, it hurts too much so he breaks the pact and returns to Chicago.

Zach tries desperately to pull back and give himself space from Carter. Carter is struggling with this because he doesn’t know what he did wrong. After a bad season he shows in Chicago, where Zach breakdown and confesses his love. However, right after Zach gets injured in a game. This is all it took for Carter to realize Zach is his everything and the feelings he has are not platonic.

Can the go from friends to lovers? Is Carter in this for the right reasons? Will they be able to survive a long distance relationship? Will Zach fully recover from his injury?

If you have not read this series I highly recommend it! I can’t wait to read is book 4 in this series!

i’m usually not a huge fan of unrequited love but boy did jodi change my thoughts on that. you’ve got zach that’s been in love with his best friend for years and carter, who’s oblivious to that love. zach and carter have been friends for so long until one day zach decides watching carter be with other people is too much so he distances himself.

this has its moments of punching me in the gut then mending that hurt. it was the perfect balance between angst and sweet/lovey. i love how carter just immediately accepted his feelings for zach, there was no hesitation. he just simply knew and i loved it all. these two were so cute and sweet and while they did have their moments of a little bit of doubt, they trusted one another and things worked out so perfectly for them. i cannot wait to see what else jodi gives us in this series!

thank you to the author agency for the arc!!

Defensive Zone Arc Review
Tropes- Childhood best friends to lovers, co-dependency, hockey player x football player, bi-awakening, pining, unrequited love, found family

Review- I read all of the Chicago Thunder books in a few days I couldn't put them down. they were all so amazing. Jodi did an amazing job with this story, I loved Zach and Carter, the best friend to lovers was perfection.

Zach was our sweet gentle giant, never raising his voice, always caring for others and the mans obsession with donuts and cupcakes i loved. My heart broke for him seeing how long he loved Carter and his injury, as someone who suffer from migraine I understood everything he was going through and saw Carter care for him with such gentleness and so much love. but in the end seeing him get his one true love healed me and Carter, the most oblivious yet endearing cinnamon roll to ever exist. he cared deeply and whole heartedly.

Zach and Carter were truly meant to find their way to each other first as best friends then as lovers and to read there story was beautiful.
