There were a lot of things that I really enjoyed about this book. It was like nothing else I've ever read. There were parts that I struggled to focus on, however. There were a lot of characters that were hard to keep track of, and the philosophical sections didn't hold my attention.

Full of clever references, there’s no doubt that Rushdie is clever, funny and well traveled, but man this book was just silly. Silly as in “wow that was a fucking stupid book”.
I don’t know...

What a wonderful magical book filled with metaphors and allegories about the meaningless chaos of life. So beautifully written and an extremely well thought out fantasy about jinn history.

The only reason that I am not giving it five stars is because sometimes the long winded sentences were too dense and that detracted from a great message.

I feel so contemplative after reading this book. I feel the need to reevaluate my self in the context of reason and darkness. Can humans reach a stage where fear no longer drives us? Can we become a world driven on reason and compassion? If so, at what cost?

loved this book. loved loved loved loved.

more to follow. i have to think about what i want to say.

Too weird, strange storyline that goes nowhere, random dialogue and descriptions.

I don't see what the fuss is all about with this book. Probably the worst book that I've attempted to read in a long time.

Ugh, I can't believe that I made myself finish reading this book.

I liked the underlying theme of reason vs. faith. In fact, if the book featured more of the debate between the two dead philosophers, I probably would've enjoyed it more. But the story itself just didn't do it for me. It was dry and boring, as others have mentioned, like reading a text book. It took me a long time to finish this book (the only reason I did is because mama didn't raise no quitter), because my mind kept wandering while reading it. I didn't care about any of the characters, except maybe the mayor and the baby which was the most interesting story line in the book in my opinion.
