On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep

I read On Becoming Babywise in about 24 hours. It was filled with lots of great information about the importance of good sleep for babies and how to achieve it. The author states that good, restful sleep leads to a good eater. And a good eater leads to a more alert baby. And a more alert baby learns faster and hits their milestones. And also has less exhausted parents.
I highlighted a bunch of sections to refer back to and found this book very helpful. I have a little criticism about the first chapter which discussed in detail the importance of a husband and wife to the baby’s well being. There was only one small paragraph about single parenting (which I felt effectively said, well I guess your kid will be okay too) and nothing at all about a child with two mommies or two daddies. It felt a bit dated. But consider skipping right over that chapter if it doesn’t apply to you.

The family of the people who wrote this won't follow it. Babies have become gravely ill when parents have used this book. There were lawsuits a number of years ago. I read it and was appalled. Every copy should be burned.
Poorly written, poorly organized. Although this "parenting" book claims to be the perfect marriage of two extremes, its arguments and claims are extremes of their own. The only takeaway from this book that I will be implementing with our second child is the need to be more structured in our day when it comes to feeding and sleeping schedules, however, I will be very, very loosely interpreting Ezzo's idea of structure when applying it to our family.
I liked this book mostly because it matched up with a lot of things that our baby was already doing. He generally feeds on a 3 hours schedule and takes naps during each feed cycle. When I went back to work, my husband wasn't following anything in particular other than feeding. Baby's naps got shorter and after having slept through the night most of his 3rd month, he was now starting to wake up at least once. A friend gave us this book and it helped identify some of the things we were doing before and how to get things back on track. But, for a book about sleep, there's aren't a ton of specifics. I think if we had been following it from the beginning, it would have been a little easier. The general advice is helpful though, especially combined with talking to other parents.
informative
I found this book very helpful, but you have to be careful what you take away from it.
Better use as a reference guide. Decent read, but the baby schedules can be overwhelming & the advice was all over the place for book form.
informative
medium-paced
I didn't actually take any of the advice in this book. My daughter slept through the night since day one. It was rather nice, actually. She has always been on a good schedule. So, I don't know if the methods in this book work or not.
multiple people recommend it to me before I actually read it. I read it when my child was 2 months old and it made a world of difference! you can take what you like and leave what you don't, but in general, getting my child on an eat, play sleep schedule and focusing on full meals, helped her sleep better, helped my sanity, and made her much happier!
