Hmmm, dit is voor mij een zeldzaam gevalletje "De verfilming was beter dan het boek"

I had so much fun with this one, I easily read it in a singe day. It’s not great writing or a groundbreaking story by any means, but I enjoyed the romance nonetheless. I loved the drama of it all. Can’t wait to keep reading and enjoying this world!

I’m not really sure if this constitutes for spoilers, but I guess I’ll mark it that way just in case.

I didn’t love this book, nothing really happened and there were definitely some icky moments. I’m still not sure why Daphne and Simon like each other? I also thought the way the POV switched throughout the book was somewhat confusing, one minute you’d be reading about Daphne’s thoughts and then the next sentence it would be Simon’s. I wouldn’t have minded if there was some way to differentiate between the two.

Definitely not the worst book I’ve ever read though.

Impossible de noter ce livre car ce serait bien trop mauvais...
C'est un NON ferme: Ecriture, contexte, psychologie des personnages; tout est bien peu approfondie et forcé à mon goût. J'ai largement préféré la série, ce qui est très rare.

What a fun read! I loved all the banter and the devotion between Daphne and Simon and all the Bridgertons!

I watched the series first, and I cannot say how that taints my review, but I am left with this thought--rarely, if ever do I feel when I finish a book that the adaptation was better.
Now, something that certainly taints my opinion is that I am not into the romance genre, either. If you're looking for a love-at-first-sight guilty pleasure sort of story with a few steamy scenes, you may well like this book. I am not such a fan. I do, however, love historical fiction, and take guilty pleasure in royalty-adjacent stories, which is where this book won some points from me. The setting was pleasurable, and the author decent at creating interesting characters, even if they never did anything other than seek out love. Again, fine for a romance book, just not my cup of tea.
In particular I'd like the praise the character motivations. Simon's stutter and relatioship with his father was compelling, and the one thing I found in the book that felt Lacking when compared to its adaptation.
Otherwise, the series did well in expanding into the other characters besides Simon and Daphne. It did well to tone down (if not completely erase) some of the more... unsavory aspects of the story--the rape scene as well as the general unpleasant attitude of Simon, which though historically accurate, was not always enjoyable. It did well taking the roots of the characters that the author set and making them more dynamic and compelling. There were problems in the series, to be certain, but overall it was an improvement on it original. I am excited for the second season of Bridgerton--I do not think I will seek out the second book.
