It just wasn’t clicking with me, and a book this long really needs to hold you. I’m not a huge fantasy or Stephen king fan, but I trusted the review of my brother about this one. Guess it’s just not for me.

Took me way to long to finish, but I mostly enjoyed it a lot. Absolutely rock solid late King, though his weird thing where he references Stephen King books as Stephen King books (like, Cujo is a movie that characters in this book have read) is weird.
Sagged in the middle and ended sorta abruptly but I give him credit for doing something so weird and bold with it, this is the first King that I've read where he really pivoted the story multiple times in deeply interesting ways, it kept me on my toes which doesn't usually really happen with King, you can sorta see where it's going from the get-go most of the time.

Overall I enjoyed this book, especially the first half and the portrayal of a teenage boy in grief who drops everything to care for an ailing neighbor. It gets weighed down a bit, as is typical for King books, in certain portions where the journey drags on a bit too long. But it’s a fun read, with wonderful scenes and the wild imaginative stories we’ve come to expect from this author (and his team).
