When She's Common

funny lighthearted

Quite enjoyable despite my aversion to praxiians as LIs. The inclusion of a noble character added some diversity to the story, as it introduced a bit of political intrigue (and another alien world!) to the stale setting of Risda.

I was really surprised by the length, as Risda stories are usually short. The pacing felt all right for one of Dixon's serials, admittedly dragging a bit through the middle.

Zhur and Maeve were good leads, though their progress from wary allies to fuck buddies happened too abruptly for my taste. But, it's Risda, so honestly, you have to expect it.

I'm very intrigued by the Rem/Leah story considering it will take place on Praxii Minor, which should offer a refreshing change of pace. I'd love for Dixon to expand on these established metropolitan alien worlds she's created instead of the outposts/stations/backwater planets she usually favors. Those have been fun, but I'm itching for different locales at this point.

Another great read from Ruby Dixon. I absolutely love the Risdaverse series. I’m not a huge fan of the idea of cat like alien men, but this story was sweet. The MMC might have been extremely annoying at first, but he grows on you as he grows as a character. Maeve was also a very relatable character. A great marriage of convenience story. Lots of side characters pop up with updates as well for people who have been longtime fans of the series, as well as hints for future couples.

A lot of mixed feelings here and I toggled between a 3 and 4 star review for a bit. But in the end I went with four stars.

I loved a lot of things about this one. I loved the short chapters, the ending really worked for me and I loved seeing side characters that were introduced and cameos from other books in this world of Ruby Dixons.

As for the things I didn't like, I had some initial issues with Zhur (and, yes, I get that he was supposed to be problematic). He annoyed me to such a high degree initially that I wasn't sure if I could push through this book. And then I did find pacing to lag in the middle.

But, overall, I did like this book and I'd say it's definitely worth reading. Ruby Dixon- your books are my new obsession.

<blockquote> "So you're not my servant?" "So you're not my cat?" She raises her brows at me, her expression challenging, even as her voice mocks me. I decide I despise her. <blockquote?

I loved loved loved this book! I really am a fan of these characters and this story and I really hope we expand a TON in this area because I am HOOKED

I love myself a good serial where I can get my daily dose of Ruby and a good story to boot. At this point you know I’m a Rubystan and love all of her books. Risda III is one of my favorite places in the universe besides Not Hoth. So returning to Risda for another book is definitely my jam.

Maeve is lonely. And she does what any lonely extrovert would do. She decided to buy a pet. Just a small cat would be more than fine. But when she gets said cat, it’s definitely a cat. But it’s also a man. A cat man on the run from his life and not a penny to his name. So they make a deal. Zhur follows Maeve’s lead until they can get this all figured out. Only it ends with them getting married. But it’s just a fake marriage right? Right?

Zhur is hilariously pompous and he and Maeve were a hilarious duo. It’s a good feel good romance with just the proper amount of angst and drama. All the while trying to make this fake marriage work so Maeve’s friends don’t ruin everything. 10/10 I loved this.
