"This is Dirk. I call him my "muse."
I'm kind of a Dan (Doc) Skinner junkie and about a year ago when he started talking about his apprentice, Dirk, I was fascinated with this young man and the evolution of their friendship. Well, I and most everyone else that Dan is friends with on Facebook. *grins* So, you can only imagine my excitement when I found out that Dirk and Dan's editor had convinced Dan to write down the story of their friendship. Mind, people, this is not a romance. This is something better.
It was exciting to learn the story of how Doc and Dirk met, but even better was Doc's first glimpse at Dirk's mom and the relationship she and Dirk share. I would have liked to have been a mom like her, but I'm not sure I could handle an exceptionally bright ADHD kid like Dirk.
"Her eyes crinkled as she nodded. "If he's going to be a good businessman he's got to make judgements for himself. But I'm a mom too, and I'm not going to let him think he can slack off for one second. Everybody has to answer to someone. That's why Mother's Day was invented. We get prizes for surviving the process."
I'll admit to practically wetting myself as Dirk talks about his growth spurt bringing him a larger dick, discovering masturbation (thank you to his mom for Dirk's knowledge of Monty Python), and his first time. I had to stop drinking my ice water because I'd already spilled the cubes and the water had gone up my nose a few times. Thanks for the pain, Dirk. It was so worth it! And the author adding random "Dirkisms" just made everything even better.
As I mentioned, this is not a romance, but an incredible non-fiction work that shows the wonderful development of a strong friendship between an older man (sorry, Dan) and his apprentice/muse. This is a short read but filled with humor, life lessons, and two guys that are lucky they found each other! I so can't wait for volume 2.

I love Dan Skinner's voice. I love the way he tells his stories. To be honest, reading his words is soothing to me as much as it is exciting.
And this short episode was no different. They who have been following him on Social Media are familiar with Dirk of course. But it was still surprising, it was still interesting to learn more and see more of the dynamic between the muse and the artist. And the fun they have.
I enjoyed this very, very much and I am so looking forward to read MORE.
