I loved Zoo and was eager to read Zoo 2. My first disappointment came when I saw how short the book is, especially when compared to Zoo. I like the background and the stage-setting and the anticipation leading up to the conflicts. There was little to none of that here.
My second big disappointment was when I started reading and found the book written in first person present tense - nothing at all like Zoo. It didn't flow well from that book to this one or throughout this one. And when the scene switched to Chloe, it was odd reading the tire person account. To me it seemed like poorly written fan fiction from a mediocre writer.
Third, the constant fast pace of the plot left me feeling tired. I wanted to read more about the characters and the situations without feeling like they were being thrust upon me in a rapid-fire way. I understand that pace fit the mood of the book, but I like something that varies. The resolution also came about rather abruptly.
Fourth, I felt like I was reading zombie fiction. I'm not into the supernatural thrillers featuring vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc., but when the feral humans came on the scene, that's what it initially made me think of.
Finally, the lead-in for a likely third novel/novella was also a let-down. When I read a review that indicated a third book was a distinct possibility, I felt I would probably read it despite how I was feeling halfway through the book, but when I got to the cliffhanger, I thought it was like a bad B sci-fi movie. Killer cockroaches? Unless I hear it's better than what I'm imagining, I'll most likely pass.
I had such high hopes for this book, but they were dashed to the ground.

I loved this quick little read. It was compelling all the way through and set itself up for a third book! I liked the short and to the point story telling that this "book shot" provides.
The science is as cheesy as the first book, but I can look past that because it's fiction. I was able to somehow connect to the characters better in this tiny book than in the first one. There are some unanswered questions--some things I think I figured out (like the Bali situation), but I may be wrong.
Love the series--TV and book--and can't wait for more!

Amazing. Entertaining. Quick and manageable. I didn't know I needed a sequel to ZOO.. but after reading ZOO 2 I want a ZOO3+ I really enjoy the characters and the story it's a fun little escape.
I enjoyed the book up until the 24th chapter. When the author decides to state that there were some Mormon missionaries that the local police said their deaths were part of some sort of religious murder suicide thing. I was a little put off by this..
Jackson Oz returns with his wife Chloe and their son Eli for the next part in the HAC. After trying, in vain, to convince the world to give up the cell phones and chemicals that caused animals to hunt humans, Oz is called upon to deal with a brand new threat to humanity. With the help of a new team of scientists and experts, Oz once again must help come up with a plan to save humanity. While traveling all over the world for answers, Chloe and Eli are in mortal danger. Oz must decider between the fate of mankind and the survival of his wife and child. It was a great and quick followup to Zoo.
