Definitely a very thoughtful with a lot of thought out into its presentation. It's a very interesting story that dabbles with some hard topics, including intellectual disability and family rejection. The presentation is the most interesting part, I like to think the short pages with text in the middle symbolize the white wilderness of Iceland while on the hunt.
Its enjoyable and thoughtful but not outstanding--by the end I didn't get a "wow" effect so much as an "ah, okay." Not overly profound but unique at the very least.
I would recommend it if you want something that breaks up conventional writing and if you need a fast read (it's even shorter words wise than you'd expect 115 pages to be). I would also note that the magical realism/fantasy element is very, very light and I honestly wouldn't categorize the book as fantasy at all.

A hunter sets out to hunt a blue fox, a vixen. But when a blizzard arrives, rather than do the sensible thing, he keeps following the fox for which there are consequences. Meanwhile, a gentleman comes upon a simple woman who has been obviously sexually abused en route to who knows where so he takes her in and they take good care of one another. What we don’t know until the end is who is the hunter and what is the fate of the fox. This book has received a major Nordic award and rave reviews. The ending left me not caring at all and why I rate it only so-so.

This book feels very much like modern folklore, with pretty unsubtle explorations into key character's morality.

The tale starts with a priest hunting a mysterious blue fox. As he pulls the trigger we are transported back in time and introduced to naturalist Fridrik and Abba, a woman with Down's.

This is a beautifully written tale with some surreal moments. For those who oppose hunting (me included) fear not, this priest gets his just desserts.
