A YA horror that was spooky vibes and sketchy shit from start to finish. It felt like I was watching The Conjuring again with the anticipation, the tension, being alone in a dark hall, lights turning off, shadows of footsteps under the door of an empty room... I love horror, I love haunted houses and ghost stories, and this is a well-done blend of horror, grief, mental illness, and intergenerational trauma.

It's dull and the writing doesn't get interesting even when the plot supposedly thickens. If you love aesthetic horror, yeah, it might work, but I really wanted a little more for it.

What the fuck did I just read šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«??!? I can honestly say that Horrid is one of the creepiest books Iā€™ve ever read. And if you know me, you know that horror and scary books really arenā€™t my thing. I donā€™t think I would have picked this one for myself if I hadnā€™t gotten it in a subscription box last year. Horrid is definitely a perfect read for Halloween and spooky seasonā€¦.Just, maybe donā€™t read it right before going to bed. Unless you want nightmares.

Lenoā€™s work is something that Iā€™ve come to really enjoy and even though this one scared the pants off of me, itā€™s something that I just couldnā€™t put down. Itā€™s compulsively readable, and Jane is such an interesting main character. She knew that something wasnā€™t right with that house. And boy was she rightā€¦but nobody would listen.

I honestly donā€™t know what to say about this book, other then that itā€™s really fucking scary and really good. Oh! And fact that it ends abruptly! I think thatā€™s probably one of the scariest parts of this book, that it just cuts to black before we get to see the aftermath. Horrid such a great read and Iā€™m giving it solid four stars.

this book was more truly deeply disturbing than scary, but it was still good. it really didn't have the same terror as a true horror book would, but it's remarkably uncanny. I supposed this can be horror in its own right, but if you're looking for a horror book to make you lose sleep at night instead of a horror book that will deeply disturb you then this book is probably not for you. admittedly, I did see the twists coming and one of them was particularly predictable, but they were good nonetheless. other than that? I loved it.

What an ending! Utterly evil and horrid and I loved it, 3.5 stars.

 ā€œAnd when she was good,
 She was very, very good,
But when she was bad, she was horrid.ā€

Janeā€™s habit of eating pages was interesting, and the cover is absolutely gorgeous.
But it had some elements that are often used (girl moves to a different town, into an old house that has a dark history everybody knows but no one talks about) and so the plot twist wasnā€™t a surprise to me. Still, it was a pleasant read and the build-up to the climax was good.

I read this in two days. Pretty standard YA horror, not gory, more creepy. Interesting enough, page turner but it's pretty easy to work out what's going on before the book tells you. The very end was slightly unexpected. I did enjoy this but it hasn't been my favourite book.
