I struggle to appreciate stories where extremely powerful protagonists are just too powerful and don't struggle. Sure, give them an overused weakness like Kryptonite or a damsel in distress that will emotionally stall the hero, but even these tropes tend to get overused. What I appreciate in Solo Leveling is the balance it holds with Jinwoo's abilities. Yes, there are emotional beats where he realizes he's not strong enough, but he is still able to defeat his enemies even with some struggle. And that struggle feels real, it has some weight to it, but I trust in him enough to know that he is going to win in the end. I also appreciate actually being able to disagree with Jinwoo's actions, especially in the climactic scene towards the end of this volume. It's this fine tension between winning and failing that I think goes really well in Solo Leveling.

While, like the other volumes, it's a quick read, there's enough action in the art style to really see the impact that these fights are having on the characters and the environment. As much as I love Jinwoo's character and his ability to persevere against his enemies, I am hoping that he's able to gain companions who can join him so that he doesn't have to be the titular solo character. There needs to be more tension within his own team to help him think through his decisions, as his power is starting to corrupt and cause him to make brash decisions. But at the same time, I love it as it gives much needed conflict between the human characters.

Can't wait for the next volume to release!
