The joke is: married people don't love each other because they're married. Get it?

I know, I know, this is satire. It just doesn't seem to have a healthy reason to be read.

Last poem (the serious one) is pretty great though.

Maybe I haven't been married long enough to hate my spouse, but I just didn't get the humor in these poems. Also sounds like having kids is miserable. Maybe I just didn't get it and maybe I don't really want to.

Dark and lovely humor. John Kenney's poems made me smile and snicker and laugh... and sometimes tear up a little.

So many of these poems were very cute, & there were several that I had to read out loud to my husband. I found myself smiling throughout, & I breezed through this book. There are some that I'm sure I will revisit in the future.

Several of these poems depict couples who don't seem to care for each other at all. In the middle, there seemed to be a particular slump of unhappy poetry that really took some of the enjoyment away for me. I would have preferred some more positive poems sprinkled throughout to break it up.

Overall, if you are looking to laugh I would tell you to pick this book up, enjoy the good parts of it, & ignore the ones you don't prefer. That's absolutely what I did, & it's easy enough to do in the way it's set out. I will revisit this one in the future.

Silly, observant, short, satirical. Fun and dumb but also cracks onto a lot of truths where you go... shit, that’s me isn’t it?

Quick, clever read. Could write a sonnet about reading them aloud to my husband while he is trying to watch YouTube videos because the girls are finally asleep but, well, I’m no poet.

A book that both pokes fun while finding a kernel of truth in the mundane, every day grind of marriage.
