I literally didn't know anything about this book and then read it now in one sitting. Quite easy to read, mostly just a stream-of-consciousness from a boy with some really bad mental issues, who has a maniac episode. Like he yaps and yaps and yaps.
Hmm… I really really liked the last third. The first 2/3 had some hits and some misses. I always find it realllly hard to like a book when the narrator is so intolerable. I know that’s the point but it’s how I feel.
If it was done like the last third the whole time I’d excuse it and give at least 4 stars.

Where do I even begin. Firstly, I was not a fan of this novel. Although, when I watched Salinger’s documentary my eyes were open to what this novel was really about. Holden is a direct reflection of Salinger. Both Salinger and Holden are never bothered enough to stay with the things that are important to life. Instead, they focus on their craft and keep important people at arms length. Catcher in The Rye is a beautiful story that is not only about learning to love things in life but it is about coming of age. Holden transformed in this novel how Salinger would have liked to.
I don’t know what I was expecting this book to be about but it wasn’t this! I wasn’t really sure where the story was going (and still wasn’t by the end) and found the language a bit odd. It did grow on me a bit as it went through but not sure why it’s a classic to be honest!
it is honestly what i expected. my christmas wish this year js that men stopped writing about women entirely!
