In an attempt to rekindle their relationship, Adam and Amelia travel to the Scottish Highlands to spend a weekend together. As tensions between the rise and a storm brews, they must confront the secrets they've been keeping.

I really liked how this was told, with the present day timeline showing the dynamic between Amelia and Adam now, and the background being slowly fed through letters written on the couple's wedding anniversary. I thought it was a really clever way to build up the suspense and it definitely kept me wanting to know more. The last 100 pages or so were so full of twists and turns that I didn't see coming at all! It was a wild ride but I still feel like I have some questions. A few more chapters would have really pulled everything together.

This book had me gasping in shock multiple times and left me unsure of who was telling the truth in the end. Gives me big book of the year vibes.

TW: infertility

Attempt 2:

I pushed to finish for book club. What did I just read??? I’m a pretty novice thriller reader and I didn’t catch ANY of those twists. The twists kept twisting and twisting I was getting dizzy at the end trying to keep it all straight. I skipped the fertility chapters so it made it more palatable to me. Plots about broken marriages still aren’t entertaining to me and I probably won’t pick up another book with a similar plot line. The setting for this was fabulous though!

Attempt one:  DNF @ 36% ⭐️

Broken marriages and pettiness + infertility isn’t entertaining for me. I just couldn’t get into it after pausing and trying again twice. The setting was very spooky and at first I was enjoying the “haunted house” feel of the story. Plot lost me though :/
