Powerful, moving, heart-rending. This is a must read.
It took me a bit to get into this book. I remembered enjoying the movie, and so found the book to read. The book was a very straight forward read in a bland writing style, in my opinion. While I liked the story, I found it difficult to read in long reading times. I could only do short reading sessions before I started to find myself falling asleep.
La traduction française d'Anna Souillac n'est qu'une simplement terrible chose. Non merci.
A young man is kidnapped in new York in 1841 where he is sold into slavery to work in Louisiana. A very real and brutal account of slavery just at the beginnings of the abolitionist movement. This was one of the most popular slave narratives of it's day in the 1850's.

Twelve years a Slave, Solomon Northup’s story is told in a simple, straightforward manner with little to no embellishments. He was a free man kidnapped and sold into slavery in Louisiana. His observations are detailed throughout the text. This book should be required reading and taught in all American schools. The American education system needs to stop being an accessory to covering up our history
