In book 9 of the Orphan X series, Evan Smoak is a highly trained assassin who is now dedicating his life to using his skills to help people in dire need. Instead, he gets an assignment he can’t refuse to find the missing dog. Because it’s Evan Smoak, the case of the missing dog quickly turns into battling another assassin and tech billionaires using AI in the most nefarious possible ways. Seriously, early on in the book, the pacing becomes relentless and rarely lets up, except for a few scenes in which Evan is working with or socializing with his teenage computer hacker or arms expert or forger.
This is a lot of fun. Evan’s conversations with the tech billionaires about us dumb regular humans using social media instead of real-life interaction are cautionary, and the bits about deep fakes are largely terrifying.
NetGalley provided an advance copy of this novel, which RELEASES FEBRUARY 13, 2024.

Evan Smoak, AKA Orphan X, AKA The Nowhere Man, is a government-trained assassin gone rogue. He’s broken free from the program that built him and now he’s using his deadly skills to defend the weak, get back what was taken, and punish those that deserve it. Evan’s case in this story starts out with a lost dog and quickly escalates to sadistic tech moguls, human traffickers, sorority bitches, a ruthless HOA election, and Evan’s own revelations about family and friends.
I’ve been a fan of the Orphan X series from the beginning, and Lone Wolf, the ninth and latest book, is hands down my absolute favorite. It was non-stop action with compelling characters—new and old. This book in particular was also really funny. All the quick one-liners had me giggling between all the action. While I think you’d get a lot more out this one if you read the series from the beginning, I think you could still jump into this one and enjoy it just the same.
Thank you, @NetGalley, @StMartinsPress, and @GreggHurwitzBooks for the advanced copy of this book. I absolutely loved it!

Liked that he paid homage to Toby Keith by referencing his song "As Good as I Once Was."
I decided I cannot listen to two audiobooks narrated by Scott Brick back to back. His voice is always intense and almost yelling at the listener. It feels like he is doing damage to my sympathetic nervous system. Maybe if he had a little more nuance in his delivery... ugh I need a nap.

Phenomenal, action packed as always ! IDC what anyone says 🤣. Orphan X you will always get my audible credit !
ETA- The Only thing better than reading an Orphan X novel is listening to it narrated by Scott Brick. His performance was impeccable, as always!
I’ve been looking forward to the next installment in the Orphan X series. It’s guaranteed to be high octane from start to finish! I also appreciate that the series has evolved over time. Evan Smoak is getting older and, gasp, making friends. Both of these things affect events in this book and I personally feel the books are the better for it! Those pesky people in the HOA. What’s going on with Tommy? What zingers will Joey bring to the table? I enjoy these moments as much as the Mission Impossible-like antics of The Nowhere Man!
*Thanks to Macmillan Audio, Minotaur and NetGalley for the advance listener/reader copy for review.

Evan Smoak or as many now him Orphan X is back in a fast paced hilarious and thrilling book called Lone Wolf. Gregg Hurwitz has done it again, I feel that the books only gets better and better. This one is brilliant. The Nowhere Man has his work cut out for him and his social life is only getting more and more difficult. The "family" side of his life really tests his limits and will his love life improve? Well I had a fun time reading this adventure and it was a rollercoaster of a ride. If you haven't tried this series yet it's about time you do it's brilliant. I must thank Minotaur Books , Macmillan and Edelweiss for letting me read this advance copy.

Evan Smoak, aka Orphan X, was trained by Jack - his handler and mentor. Ever since he was trained as an assassin, Jack became Evan's father figure. Evan was constantly trying to use his skills and keeping with the Ten Commandments that Jack handed down to him. This made it certain for him to stay in harmony with the job and his own moral compass while in the Orphan Program, which was designed to stop sex traffickers, domestic abusers and other equally vile characters.
If you are a fan of movies like The Bourne Identity, then you will truly love this book and the entire series. I definitely would recommend going into your online library or Audible, and getting each and every book which I will list below.
At some point, Evan left the program and came to be known as The Nowhere Man. He is in a race for survival. One thing Evan hopes for at this point in his life is to find his biological father. But, there is an assassin taking lives, and Evan, along with Joey, his computer genius, he works hard to find the female assassin. Joey is a young college kid who consistently messes with Smoak’s need for order, but Evan cannot deny how brilliant she is.
As Evan hunts the assassin, he realizes that her skills match his. Thus, there is incredible action in this audiobook. My heart was racing every single minute of this read.
Many thanks to Minotaur Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
