Reread - 2021
I freaking love this book, Rielle and Eliana are both bad ass female MC who love to dance the line between good and evil.
Can't wait to read the sequel

I really liked this fantasy novel. Two timelines of strong women. Already have the sequel. Hope that is even better.

Normally, I'm not a fan of the back and forth perspectives per chapter, however, Furyborn pulls this off astoundingly and it has something for everyone. Romance? Check. Kingdoms, castles, princesses, etc? Check. Loads of sword fighting, magic, and blood? Check. I had high hopes for this one and was absolutely not disappointed. I look forward to the rest of this trilogy unfolding.

I found Furyborn a little disappointing to be honest. It is just so long and the dual storyline aspect made it slightly confusing in places and definitely drag on. Though sadly neither one would really work without the other because the world building is in both.

I enjoyed Rielle’s storyline more, and would have preferred in many ways to read it as a cohesive whole. I liked her trials and the magic system, though it took me a while to figure it out. I also liked her friendships with Ludivine and Audric.

Eliana on the other hand, I didn’t connect with at all until like page 350. I liked some of the things going on around her - the wolf, the disappearing women, Remy and Navi. I just couldn’t get into her storyline as much and she’s not as sympathetic a character. But towards the end her story really picked up and became much more interesting.

While the book is well written, I just couldn’t get what I wanted from it and felt it took a long time to get where it was going. And I don’t even really know where that is - there’s not a lot of resolution going on. I wanted more from Rielle’s story on that front.
