this book gets better and better every time i read it i swear...... HOLY SHIT

I have so many mixed thoughts about this, but overall it was a pretty big disappointment :(

DNF

Despite the amazing narration of the wonderful Fiona Hardingham, this story just did not capture me. I soldiered on until I was super close to the end but I just knew exactly where it was going and couldn't be bothered, especially as there is a sequel. The 'plot twists' were unbearably predictable, flagged by everything around it. Not my cup of tea, at all. Not clever enough or well written enough to tempt me. Sorry.

Coming off of Sawkill Girls, I was excited for a new Legrand adventure, but this just wasn't the one for me. In SK, Legrand was the queen of the multi voice narratives and antiheroines to die for, but here her characters felt like generic fantasy heroines in the most generic of set ups. I liked the idea of mirroring two stories 1000 years apart, but Rielle and Eliana were difficult to tell apart... made worse by the fact they share one audio narrator who does nothing to differentiate the two). I was curious to see how Rielle became the villian of the prologue, but my attention kept drifting and 5 hours in I knew it was time to move on.

Furyborn is a refreshing NA fantasy full of action, mystery and a fascinating world of magic. Told through Rielle and Eliana 1,000 years apart, the end of each chapter creates incredible suspense making it hard to put down.

Rielle is such an original MC, deeply flawed while courageous and powerful. Eliana is the anti-hero you grow to love and cheer for.

With a host of wonderful side characters and a touch of steam - I’ve launched straight into Kingsbane without hesitation.

super duper enjoyed this book but i’m so curious as to what they’ll do with rielle next? i feel like her story is close to over and elianas is just beginning. either way super excited to read the next one !

I really wanted to get into this book. I guess I found it hard to connect with the characters because we started with a kinda-prologue from one point of vuew, then switched to a main character that was semi-hard to relate to, and by the time I was tarting to warm up to her, we switched to another character 1000yrs in the future. I found that a little jarring. Thus, I wasn't able to connect or feel very invested in continuing to read. Perhaps I am getting tired of the assassin/killer teenage girl and it is my own issue, not the books. It was well-written, I just didn't bond with the characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was action packed from the beginning and kept the punches coming. I enjoyed Eliana's chapters much more than Rielle's but it was interesting to see her develop into the blood queen. While I thought the story was a bit too action heavy especially for Rielle as we just jumped from trial to trial I decided to not dock any stars because it was so enjoyable. I can't wait for book 2.

Finally reread this book to move forward. I thought I forgot a lot but it seems I didn't and because of that I was a bit bored and it took me a long time to finish it.

1.5 stars.. I didn't ABSOLUTELY hate it.... but I really really really really really DID NOT LIKE IT. It was just bad...

1. Needs more plot
2. Less action more talking
3. Did I mention PLOT is missing?
4. Who the hell has a FULL on conversation while having sex? - forreals though one minute they're getting hot and heavy the next they're conversing

This book seemed right up my alley, but when it came down to it, it was just TOO much. It's supposed to be 2 POVs but the characters seem identical... I also didn't get a chance to connect with either because they swapped POVs waaaaaay too often.

Did anyone else notice that much didn't change in 1,000 years? It almost felt like the same time line...

Overall it was super disappointing and which they scaled back.

Edit: the only redeeming factor was that it was read by Fiona Hardingham....
