I wish this book could have been a DNF by page 50, but my MA student is writing her thesis on it, so I had to push through the pain. Sure, one can read into it commentary on Baudrillardian simulacra or Freudian melancholia, but it’s not worth the mind-numbingly dumb and repetitive novel, with gratuitous sexism and racism.

I didn’t like the writing style, didn’t like the protagonist, and didn’t like the plot. That being said, I couldn’t put this book down. This entire novel is one slowly-paced train wreck, you hate it but you can’t look away. After finishing the book last week, I’m still thinking about it. Remainder reminds me of a Black Mirror episode, minus the technology.
