Listened to the last chapter of this while donating blood. Had to reassure the workers that my facial expressions were not because of the blood leaving my body. Then I had to pause to throw up because of the blood leaving my body. Then I finished the book. It was wonderful- the book, I mean.
Had a hard time getting into this one. Lots of characters. I think I wasn't really focused while reading, which did NOT help things.

I loved all the narrators in this book! I loved that there were multiple narrators and I loved their styles. It was also nice to read some contemporary middle grade. I definitely think it's a great book in it's genre, probably one of the best. I just personally like to read more complex books atm with bigger issues and problems at their center. This was a great and fast book to listen to as an audiobook and would recommend it for everyone since even if it's not for you, the audiobook is only 4 hours.

After rereading a few of my childhood favorites this year, I wanted to branch out and read more current children’s literature. I had seen Jason Reynolds on a librarian tiktok page and was thrilled to find a short story-esque novel. Since I dont have a traditional schooling background this was an interesting and slightly foreign read for me. Overall, I loved the individual chapters and the way the characters fit together. I loved the diversity of backgrounds and situations the students were in and it definitely got me thinking about what my peers were experiencing when we were kids. I’m not sure if I would’ve like this book as a kid (it was perhaps too reflective for me) but I enjoyed it now!
