I have very mixed feelings about NIGHTCHASER and I'm sad that I didn't like this one more because on paper it had everything I love in a science fiction romance. Unfortunately, the action packed beginning soon faded into the day-to-day of Tessa and Shade and it wasn't until the last quarter that the action picked up again. I found the whole middle portion too slow and I had to put this down and come back to it several times.

Part of my problem with NIGHTCHASER is that there were so many similar elements to Amanda Bouchet's other book PROMISE OF FIRE. From the feisty heroine on the run to her tragic past at the hands of an evil parent, I couldn't help but find connection after connection and this really affected my enjoyment of the book. There were also some events at the end that were miraculously solved by outside interference and this was something in Bouchet's previous books that I never liked.

While I did like certain parts about Shade and Tess there were also some parts I struggled with. Tess was energetic and sweetly naive but she also has to be one of the worst criminals trying to hide ever. She knows the Dark Watch is after her for stealing their vaccine lab and yet she continually goes out in public, including a date to the beach. However, I did like her honor and her dedication to helping others who can't help themselves. Shade was also an interesting hero but it was very odd that his point of view was written in third person while Tess's was written in first person. I also felt like some of Shade's decisions didn't make sense considering the short amount of time he's known Tess (vague I know, but I don't want to give anything away).

Overall, I found myself working to finish NIGHTCHASER and that's never an ideal feeling to have while reading. There were several events that I didn't see coming and I appreciate those surprises but as a whole this just didn't work for me.

I enjoyed this book but I had a lot of problems with it first I barely connected with the main character I think it had to do with all the world building that was being done but the characters got lost in it all, which made it harder to connect with any of them. I also thought the relationship happened out of no where and thought Tess was a little juvenile about the way she went about it. The plot was also a little slow for me and the middle part felt like it was only there to move the relationship along and then towards the end it picked back up again. This was a little disappointing to me because I loved Amanda Bouchet’s previous series and was hoping this one would be just as good. Some of the things I liked about it was Bonk the cat, some of the side characters and some of the sci-fi elements. I plan on picking up the next one and fingers crossed that it gets better.

This book made me so happy:) i just found it fun and cute. I am a sucker for space rouge/pirates. I finished it in one long go and regret nothing. Well. Maybe that I have to wait a year for the next book. O well onto the next one

I bought the book when it first came out, and without reading it bought the second in this series. I finally got around to reading it, it took some time getting into it, but it was pretty good. I just can't seem to get into the second in this series. It is not nearly as good as the previous series Amanda wrote, and it was based on the strength of that series I bought these books. I don't know.

It's a space opera/romance/rebels vs. the Empire/life on colonized planets/princess as the heroine/special snowflake with mysterious powers/is the hero going to betray the heroine for money/kind of book.

Oh wow, I loved this so freaking much.

I'm a sucker for a good scifi/fantasy. This one is light on the sci-fi details - it doesn't get technical about anything, it's sort of hand-wavy about how stuff works. Just a heads up for folks who like hard sci-fi, because that's not what this is. Personally, I like both, so this worked fine for me.

It's a really great cast of characters, and tension about the decisions they had to make kept me completely on pins and needles. I couldn't put the book down at all. I laughed, I cried, I got tense enough that I was bouncing in my seat... and all-in-all, I couldn't get enough. I've already jumped into book 2.

I really liked Bouchet's Kingmaker Chronicles and was so excited to see she was working on a new series set in space!

I have to say she has a knack for writing sexy heroes and some awesome slow burn. She also knows how to write a relatable, smart heroine who I liked from the start.

The story starts with a bang and keeps up the action and excitement throughout the novel. I enjoyed every moment and cannot wait to see what comes next.

This book is set to publish January 1, 2019! I received this ARC from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca. All my opinions are my own.
