I would love for these type of books (fictions mixed with reality) to be in an adult format. I do think this series is great for younger people but I can't seem to get into middle grade fiction unfortunately.

Back to some adult fiction I go, but it was a fun ride either way.

A suspenseful retelling of the sinking of the Titanic. Great to use with classes as it has foreshadowing and flashbacks as well as some good vocabulary.

I really enjoyed this first entry into the I Survived series. I remember seeing them as a kid but never picked one up until now and was pretty impressed with how far it went into the details of the disaster that was the Titanic.

The movie Titanic was BIG when I was a kid. It was just risqué enough to be PG-13 but not bad enough that 10-year-olds couldn’t watch it. I remember kids in the grade above me taking their Walkmans and Discmans out to listen to “My Heart Will Go On” over and over. The girls wanted to see it because it was romantic and the boys wanted to see it because Kate Winslet was topless. I wasn’t interested in the movie too much because of all the hype, but I did see it when it came out on VHS. (This post makes me feel super old.) I liked it well enough, but I definitely wasn’t as obsessed with the movie or Leonardo DiCaprio as some.

However, I found the actual historical event absolutely fascinating. Because of the movie, Titanic literature was EVERYWHERE. It was in magazines, on TV, and in books. As a result, I knew pretty much all there was to know about the Titanic. After a while, all of the stories, real or fictional, started to blur together. So with this book, I was hoping to read something a bit different. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It reminded me a lot of one of the books that I read as a kid: Titanic Crossing by Barbara Williams. I totally loved that book and definitely read it more than once. This story had a similar to feel to it, so I didn’t learn anything knew. Because of the fact that I loved a book similar to it, I know that kids will love this I Survived book. And let’s face it, it’s an I Survived book. Kids love any of them.

My 11-year-old grandson has been obsessed by all things Titanic since he was about four. So, my spouse decided to get a couple of books about the Titanic for him for Christmas. She let me read this one first. It's not an adult book, but appropriate for kids. None-the-less, I found it rather fun.

Ten-year-old George, and his eight-year-old sister, Phoebe, are on the Titanic's maiden voyage accompanied by their Aunt Daisy. Aunt Daisy had recently been widowed. It had been the dream of her late husband to make this trip, so Aunt Daisy decided to keep the tickets already bought and she took George and Phoebe along with her.

George is known for getting into trouble, and he finds trouble a plenty on the ship. What's a 10-year-old to do but go exploring? Anyway, he does and makes friends with some immigrants in the lower decks, Marco and his kid, Enzo (or did I forget and it's the other way around?).

Well, things go fine until they hit the ice berg and the ship begins to sink, but they all manage to find a way off and to safety, and later on, find themselves reconnected with Marco and Enzo.

Pretty fun. I'll have to check with my grandson to see if they got the basic facts of the sinking, and lifeboat lowering, and so forth correctly.

Decided to give this kids' series a try and it was good. Filled with a nice twist at the end, it was both endearing and an attention-getter. Would recommend to kids!

Now this was good. This blew the other books I've read in the series out of the water. I loved the character development, not only of the MC, but all of the characters (Enzo!). This was a great intro to young readers about the Titanic.
