Horrible but probably only too true view of an overpopulated future. Quite a good read though rather depressing

The inspiration behind the movie Soylent Green, although lacking the famous twist. It is definitely a product of it's era, complete with fun casual sexism. But, the message is still poignant and it was a quick read so I can't complain. Depressing.

I've loved the movie Soylent Green since I first saw it and, when I discovered it was based on a book I knew I had to read it! It took a while to get my hands on the book, but I'm so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book and will be recommended to everyone.

This is definitely a cautionary tale about overpopulation. And I adore Sol's speech about death control and birth control.

I had watched Soylent green but never read this book. So I kept waiting for the twist that never came because it was only in the movie. With that being said this story presents a bleak future that dystopian nightmare land that we are using all our resources and overpopulated. We may have pasted the year portrayed this book but who know about the future

3! This book is kinda cRaZY & wEIrd! Science fiction and dystopian but like it’s 1999 … entertaining and inviting enough to read and enjoy! The intrigue is for sure in the ways social issues have shaped the “world” like unchecked birth control and poor infrastructure. Wacky weird read but really enjoyed it.

This won't set (and hasn't set) the literary world on fire, but it is a good, solid read about the effects of overpopulation in the "future" (set in 1999). Will look out for more Harry Harrison reads.

Alright but kinda dated and no scoops, or euthanasia or people based foods like in the movie.
