Pyongyang narra la breve vida de Guy Delisle como trabajador en la capitán norcoreana. Durante sus dos meses en la capital, Guy nos muestra un país que no permite ni fotos de los extranjeros y que a día de hoy sigue siendo un enigma. A día de hoy, este cómic, sigue siendo uno de los más vendidos.
No puedo decir que esta obra me haya decepcionado porque es justo lo que esperaba, pero es cierto que en la actualidad ya existen documentales e incluso testimonios de viajes a Corea del Norte y no hay nada de lo que presenta que sea desconocido. En el año que se publicó, esta obra descubrió muchos secretos de la capital norcoreana, pero al leerlo en 2021 su efecto sorpresa se pierde un poco.
Lo que más gracia me hace es la exposición de los personajes norcoreanos, pero sobre todo, el humor de Guy, ya que él mismo se ríe de sus propios chistes y no sé porqué me hizo muchísima gracia. Cabe mencionar que el aguante que tuvo y la idea de leer 1984 en Corea del Norte tiene mucho mérito.
La obra no me ha disgustado pero no me ha dejado con ganas de seguir leyendo al autor, me la imaginaba quizás un poco más elocuente. Por lo tanto voy a serle fiel a mis sentimientos cuando la leí y la voy a valorar sin importarme su fama o repercusión.

Ik vind de inzichten in het dagelijks leven van Noord-Korea interessant maar ik vind de manier waarop de schrijver het vertelt niet echt pakkend of samenhangend, en soms zelfs wat elitair. Hij zet zichzelf in mijn ogen echt boven de mensen daar, terwijl hij dondersgoed weet met wat voor maatschappij/regime hij te maken heeft en hoe geprivilegieerd hij zelf is. Ik vind de grapjes soms ook wat misplaatst en bij vlagen zelfs seksistisch. Niet helemaal mijn stijl

I really enjoyed this. A short travelogue of life in North Korea for a foreigner in 2003. Well drawn, the graphic novel is the perfect medium for this story, I enjoyed all of it.
I like to travel and I doubt I will get to North Korea, or would want to. I appreciated the outsiders perspective, it felt like I was there experiencing these things. The author wrote well and welcomed people into the story. I am not very familiar with communist regimes in practice and this was a great introduction.
Lots of great tidbits like only one floor of the 47 story hotel has power, the ones with the foreigners on it. The only place in downtown you will see lights at night are the lights illuminating the statues of the Great Leader. Indoctrination messages are painted on the sides of mountains. And the work week in North Korea is six days per week, with "volunteer" time on the seventh day. "Volunteer" activities include things like sweeping a highway or painting a bridge.

It was informative and a good read although I think some of the jokes were in bad taste and kind of sexist. That 'edgy dude' humor is just not my cup of tea.
