OH MY GOSH! This was just oodles of fun! Love it! Gave me, thanks to all the words and how the family worked, big Lemony Snicket vibes and I love love it. I also loved the whole treasure hunting, the murder and the whodunnit mystery which got really exciting and I had fun thinking along with our characters on who it could be. Shenanigan was a wonderful character and I loved that we also got to see how she feels about her name and wonders about all the names everyone is given and if that is some kind of destiny thing or just coincidence. Fantastic characters all round. Love the two trans characters and I loved that one of them went with the word Erf, as a Dutchy I was instantly intrigued. Did they mean erf as in what it means in Dutch or is it something else. The ending was fab! I loved the illustrations. All in all, give me book two!

A lot of fun but I couldn't help but have A Series of Unfortunate Events with maybe even a touch of The Addams Family in the back of my mind while reading this.

This is a whimsical manor house whodunit. I loved the characters, especially the names (Shenanigan Swift!). Does your name determine your character? I loved the author's introductory comments about the quirks and variety of language. Fun!

The Swifts provided a super fun romp complete with eccentric family, murder, and a treasure hunt.  When a Swift is born, they are given a word from the dictionary which is thought to define them as an individual - except sometimes it doesn’t fit - so many topics are explored such as nature vs nurture. There is some coming of age bent - though it happens over only a few days, and the word play is really fun. It took me a while to get invested in these characters, and I think the book is a little long, but it was an enjoyable and empathy building tale.
