A million trigger warnings for this book, but also a million reasons to read it. Cupcake loses her mom at 11, and her world gets turned upside down. She spends her childhood and young adulthood in foster care, living on the streets and becoming heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol. Her story is one of perseverance, faith and second chances. I listened to this on audio and highly recommend bc even through all the trauma, I found myself laughing along with Cup's wittiness.  My book club really loved this one (maybe our highest rated book yet!) and we had a great discussion.

Wonderful book and empowering memoir-- I just couldn't finish it due to my deteriorating mental health. I wish I would've read the content warnings before starting. Pls take care of yourself and search up the content warnings before reading

This memoir is raw, heartbreaking, inspiring, and at times hilarious. Cupcake's journey reveals many of the flaws in the family court system and foster care system of the 70s, of which I'm sure many remain today. Her story should make us all pause when we see people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs because we don't know their whole story. She discusses themes of trauma, avoiding emotions, chosen family, self-love, and forgiveness.

Cupcake Brown is so raw and real in this book. She told every little detail of the life that she lived and the things that she did. The good, the bad, the horrible, it was all in there. There were parts in this book that were so crazy to me that it seemed like fiction.

As a person that loves someone that is an addict this book is hearbreaking. It is also a survival story. A story of someone that overcame all odds.

If you haven't already, and can deal with all the triggers, READ THIS BOOK. But there are triggers for almost everything you can think of.
